History and Specifications:
Forming the backbone of USAF bomber fleets for the last 70 years, the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range heavy bomber aircraft. Equipped for both conventional and nuclear ordnance, with precise targeting systems and reconnaissance integration, Stratofortresses can survey 140,000 square miles in less than 2 hours and eliminate high-priority threats. Introduced in 1955 with 8,800 miles of unrefueled range, B-52s often fly at altitudes up to 50,000 ft, at speeds over 600 mph. Powered by eight Pratt & Whitney TF33-P-3/103 engines, the aircraft can carry a maximum payload of 70,000 lbs. Continuously developed for an ever changing landscape, the modern B-52H model is the only variant still in service, representing just 58 units of the 744 B-52s built since 1952.
