Introduced in the 1980s, the De Havilland Dash 8 is a short-range propellor-driven commuter aircraft for low-capacity flights. Featuring two Pratt & Whitney turboprop engines across high-mounted wings, the Dash 8 is instantly recognizable in the skies, with an unmistakable triple-fuselage design. Though production ceased in the early 21st century for the 100, 200, and 300 models, there have been more than 1300 manufactured, with more still being created for the modern Q400 design.
Carrying up to 56 passengers on a typical flight, the Dash-8-300 model has up to 960 miles of range and two crew in the cockpit. Powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney PW123E engines, the lightweight aircraft has nearly 5,000 hp at its disposal, split across two four-bladed propellors. Resulting performance includes a cruising speed over 330 mph, altitude ceiling of 25,000 ft, and maximum takeoff weight of 43,200 lbs.
Modified for use by the US Army Golden Knights, the C-147A performs on parachute demonstration missions, having replaced the Fokker 31-A Troopship. Not only does the new aircraft provide increased safety over its predecessor, but it does so at a vastly lower cost, allowing for more beautiful displays and readiness training to commence. Die-Cast version has an accurate paint scheme, etched panel lines, pad-printed decals, and detailed landing gear. Also includes rotating propellors and metal display stand to show the model in flight. Measures 5.25”l with a 5.5” wingspan at 1:200 scale.
