Measuring 11.5"l with a 12” wingspan at 1:200 scale, this die-cast model features an authentic paint scheme, etched panel lines, and pad printed decals. Configurable with retracted or deployed landing gear and display stand, it arrives fully built and painted.
The Boeing 747 airliner has seen a star-studded life in the history books, being produced from 1969 until 2023, with a total of 1,574 being manufactured. It was designed to carry hundreds of passengers and had a range up to 10,000 miles or more at a high cruising speed near 500 kts (around 575 mph). Standard models such as the 747-400 carried up to 400 or more passengers, but range could vary from 276 in the 747SP, all the way up to some 600 or more in later models like the 747-800 depending on the selection of seating class.
This specific variant was a product of Pan-Am’s request to extend the range of the aircraft with a smaller size and passenger load. Though Boeing's first prototype SP flew in 1975, first deliveries would commence for Trans World Airlines in 1980. Serving until 1986, all 3 units would be sent to American Airlines instead. Powered by four Pratt and Whitney JT9D engines, the shortened 700,00 lb airliner could fly 7,600 miles nonstop, with a cruising speed of 568 mph. Carrying up to 276 passengers, it had 30% less capacity than the mainline 747 variants. Even though it only served for less than a decade, the aircraft represented the growing need efficiency requirements of the coming years.
Painted in bright red and white TWA colors and accented with reflective silver, aircraft N57203 was the final of three 747SPs to fulfil their initial order. Thirtieth to leave Boeing's production line, it was active for just a few flights with Trans World Airlines, boasting refitted sleeper seats for long-distance travels. Die-Cast version features the authentic Trans World Airlines scheme, engraved panel lines with high quality pad printed details, deployed or retracted landing gear and a display stand to show the aircraft in flight.
