Summary

The Boeing 747 airliner has seen a star-studded life in the history books, being produced from 1969 until 2023, with a total of 1,574 being manufactured.

The Boeing 747 airliner has seen a star-studded life in the history books, being produced from 1969 until 2023, with a total of 1,574 being manufactured. It was designed to carry hundreds of passengers and had a range up to 10,000 miles or more at a high cruising speed near 500 kts (around 575 mph). Standard models such as the 747-400 carried up to 400 or more passengers, but range could vary from 276 in the 747SP, all the way up to some 600 or more in later models like the 747-800 depending on the selection of seating class. This specific variant was a product of Pan-Am’s request to extend the range of the aircraft with a smaller size and passenger load. The SP variant saw its first flight in 1975 but was delivered until much later to Trans World Airlines in 1980. It served the airline until 1986, where all 3 delivered were sent to be used by American Airlines. The jet was powered by four Pratt and Whitney JT9D engines which propelled the up to 700,00 lb. airliner over more than 7,600 miles nonstop, with a cruising speed of 568 mph. It carried up to 276 passengers, a smaller amount than the 400 or so person capacity of a mainline 747 variant, like the 747-400. The Die-Cast itself features the authentic Trans World Airlines scheme, engraved panel lines with high quality pad printed details, and scale landing gear. Available in two different scale options. 1:400 scale measures 6”l with a 6” wingspan. The 1:200 scale measures 11.5”l with a 12” wingspan and features flaps and leading-edge slats deployed for display in landing configuration.
