Officially licensed by the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, this high quality die-cast model is a faithful replica of aircraft 61-7972. Kept in a special hangar between 1993 and 2001 at Washington Dulles International Airport, it is now on display at the Steven F. Uvdar-Hazy center in Chantilly, Virginia. Most well kept of the remaining Blackbirds, it retains four speed records that it achieved during March of 1990, including a US West Coast to East Coast time of just under one hour and eight minutes. Piloted by Lt. Col. Ed Yielding with RSO Lt. Col. Joseph Vida in the backseat on their final flight, the aircraft finished its duties with 2,801.1 flight hours completed. Recognized as one of the primary test aircraft at Edwards Air Force Base during the 1980s, it stands prominently for all to see. Die-cast replica features an authentic livery, etched panel lines, printed decals, landing gear, and display stand. Measures 6”l with a 3.25” wingspan at 1:200 scale.
