The Northrop P-61 Black Widow is a twin-engine, twin-boom fighter aircraft with a uniquely uncharacteristic shape. Utilized by the US Army Air Forces during WWII, it became the first American warplane to feature an airborne radar. Intended to intercept Luftwaffe bombers that were attacking London, the night fighter’s radar was crucial to spotting enemies under complete darkness. It also had a top mounted gunner position with four 50-caliber machine guns and four nose mounted 20mm cannons for offensive firepower. This specific P-61, known as “Lady in the Dark” from the 548th Squadron, is likely one of the most famous ever to see combat. Credited as the last scoring plane of WWII, it managed to force two Japanese fighters into the ocean without firing one single bullet. Model version features etched panel lines, printed detailing, and display stand. Measures 5”l with a 6.5” wingspan at 1:120 scale.
