History and Specifications:
Angular in design with large canted tails, smooth surfaces, and sharp edges, the F-22 Raptor features radar absorbent paint to reduce or deflect radar waves. Appearing no larger than a bird to enemy systems, it can swoop in virtually undetected and eliminate the opposition. Capable of supercruise, or supersonic flight without the fuel hungry afterburners, it can fly more than Mach 2.25 at high altitudes for an extremely wide flight envelope. Refined over nearly a decade of development, the Raptor was pit into full production in the early 2000s, with 187 examples reaching USAF inventory over the following years.
