F-15J Eagle “JASDF 306th TFS” Die-Cast Model

Developed in the 1970s as a response to the incoming Russian MiG-25, the McDonnell Douglas F-15 was intended to take hold of the skies in defense of the United States. With powerful engines, massive fuel capacity and deadly air-to-air capability, nothing would stand in the way of its superiority. By the time the MiG-25 was captured from a defected pilot, it was discovered that this menacing fighter was not as terrifying as it once appeared. Heavy and cumbersome, with unreliable engines and poor turning performance, it was no match for the Eagle. At this point, the F-15 was understood to have vastly out-developed its opposition, remaining undefeated in combat.

Though the massive Eagle was one of the heaviest fighter aircraft in the sky, it was one of the most agile, boasting excellent control and an over 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. However, maneuverability isn’t the only important factor, it was the ordinance load that the F-15 could equip. Compared to traditional multirole fighters of the late 20th century, the F-15 did not take on an extensive number of underwing pylons. Instead, it’s focus was exclusively on air-to-air, with 8 missile attachment points (4 on the fuselage and 2 on each of the wing stations) and three stations that were designed to carry the 600-gallon external fuel tanks.

Flying for the 306th Tactical Fighter Wing in the JASDF, this F-15J is one of the many manufactured locally by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Created under license from the USAF, Japan operates both the J and DJ editions, based on the single seat and dual-seat variants respectively. Die-Cast version has an authentic paint scheme, etched panel lines, pad printed decals, opening canopy, and display stand to show the model in flight. Also includes a full set of air-to-air weaponry with simple press-fit installation, hinged airbrake, and optional deployed or retracted landing gear. Measures 5.25”l with a 3.5” wingspan at 1:144 scale.
