The F-15 is an American, twin-engine, all weather superiority fighter designed to gain air-superiority in aerial conflicts. Designed and manufactured by McDonnel Douglas as a replacement for the aging F-4E Phantom, the successor F-15 would see flight in Juy of 1972 at Edwards AFB in California. Entering service in 1976, its superior maneuverability, acceleration, range, and weapons outmatched almost every opponent it faced. It has been one of the most successful fighters of all time, gaining over 100 aerial victories without a single loss. Represented in this miniature model is the 5th Fighter Interception SQN, based in Minot AFB, North Dakota, which operated the F-15 type from 1984 to 1988 in active service until they were re-homed in the 1990s. This model version represents one that is currently at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, with etched panel lines, printed detailing, and display stand. Measures 5”l with a 3.25” wingspan at 1:150 scale.
