History and Specifications:
The Globemaster can carry up to 102 troops or 170,900 lbs of cargo across a typical range of 6,200 miles without refueling, but can also be attached to an aircraft such as a KC-135 in order to increase range. The massive aircraft has a wingspan and length of just around 170ft and is powered by four F-117-100 engines, creating a combined 160,000 lbs of thrust on takeoff. The altitude ceiling of the jet is 45,000ft, with a top speed of 517mph and fully loaded takeoff weight of 585,000 lbs. Painted in traditional low-visibility grey, this C-17 Globemaster III fulfills duties for the 436th and 512th Airlift Wing in Dover, Delaware. Assisting in the repair and maintenance of aircraft, ground vehicles and facilities, this C-17 provides important logistical power, allowing parts to quickly be transported across the country or combat.
