Designed as a single-aisle, 5 seat wide airliner, the MD-80 is a narrow body jet aircraft originating in the 1980s as a continuation of the DC-9. As the second generation of the family, it had an enlarged wing and higher performance engines that surpassed its predecessor. In total, nearly 1,200 of the MD-80 series would be produced across 20 years of production.

With a typical setup of 140-170 passengers onboard, the MD-80 was capable of flying nearly 2,000 miles nonstop. Power is generated by two Pratt and Whitney JT8D-200 engines, creating up to 42,000 lbs combined thrust on takeoff. Resulting top speed is 543mph, altitude ceiling is 37,000ft, and maximum takeoff weight is 140,000 lbs.

Until their assets were taken in by American Airlines, TWA operated the MD-81, 82, and 83 variants, with a prominent red and white paint scheme that anyone could recognize. Featuring the final livery to ever be donned, this specific MD-82 was previously operated by Alaska Airlines until 1996, where it was taken in by TWA. Die-Cast version has an accurate paint scheme, etched panel lines, pad-printed decals, retracted or deployed landing gear, and metal display stand to show the model in flight. Measures 9”l with a 6.5” wingspan at 1:200 scale.
