History and Specifications:
Entering service in the late 1930s, the Supermarine Spitfire was an iconic piece of Royal Air Force history. Produced to the total of 20,000 units, it would soon become one of the most prolific fighter aircraft in the world. Perfected over the following decade through the Battle of Britain and WWII, late model Mk.V fighters had 30% lower wing loading than the prestigious P-51D Mustang. Boasting unmatched agility in combination with the powerful set of Hispano 20mm cannons, it made for a capable adversary to enemy fighters. Sent into battle against Luftwaffe FW-190 and BF-109s over the skies of Germany, the Spitfire would be credited with over 5,000 enemy aircraft destroyed. Building a legacy in just a few short years, each aircraft served their nation well.
