Developed for the French government under the light interceptor program, the Mirage III was the final result of the 5-year long research project. Lightweight and agile, this multi-role aircraft was intended to carry out interdiction, ground attack, and strike missions in one single package. Homed at Djibouti Air Base during the 1980s, this Mirage IIIC would operate over Africa as strategic hold over the continent. Providing swift counter against opposition in an unstable region, each aircraft was well suited to quick-response duties. Painted with low-visibility desert colors, it comfortably blends in with the environment during combat.

History and Specifications:
Produced by Dassault Aviation, the Mirage III was the first Western European aircraft to surpass Mach-2. Beginning production in 1961, Dassault would utilize an innovative production system, featuring modular nose and tail sections for varying roles. Completed just in time for final assembly, components would be selected and fitted for the required task of ground strike or air defense. Finished Mirage IIIC aircraft were fitted with two 30mm DEFA-552 cannons, supporting the 5 external pylons for air-to-air missiles, bombs, or rockets, while IIIE and IIIR models were fitted with enhanced navigation and recon equipment. Additionally, an 80-second burn liquid-fuel rocket could be placed onboard, coming at the sacrifice of the 30mm gun pack which would hold oxidizer for the booster. Performing well for export and domestic customers, more than 1,400 aircraft were produced by Dassault across numerous configurations.
