Introduced in 2006 as the United States’ newest aircraft, Lockheed’s F-35 Lightning II is a stealthy and highly classified multirole fighter jet.

Boasting vertical-liftoff and traditional flight configurations, it maintains low detectability and can perform effortless intrusion and evasions of enemy systems. With more than 1,000 units delivered by 2024, it is expected to remain in service until the late 21st century as the premier fighter jet of nations across the globe.

History and Specifications:
Rising from the need to replace aging fleets in the US Navy, Air Force, and Marines, the F-35 Lightning II was developed from a hard-fought battle of rigorous test flights, cost overruns, and failures that would see the drawing board be turned upside down. Demonstrating stable vertical takeoff and landing, promising stealth results, and excellent maneuverability, Lockheed’s final concept would be selected on the turn of the 21st century. Now in active service during the following decades, the modern F-35 has been exported around the world in all three unique variants. Featured here in the “A” configuration, this aircraft removes the bulky vertical-takeoff components, instead opting to fly from traditional runways. Decorated with the unique “Red Tail” design of the 187th Fighter Wing, this F-35A is stationed at Montgomery Air National Guard base in Alabama. Honoring the achievements of the famous Tuskegee Airmen in WWII, the 100th Fighter Squadron continues to achieve excellence every day with the Lightning II.
