Plane #10 of the Thunderbirds

Developed in the 1970s by Lockheed Martin as a single engine, multirole fighter, the F-16 was immediately received with high praise. Incorporating an aerodynamically unstable configuration and fly-by-wire control system, the advanced jet was prepared to take on even the most powerful adversaries into the late 20th century. Produced since 1973, more than 4,600 have been manufactured by Lockheed Martin. Demonstrating combat readiness in 1988, this aircraft was converted in under 72 hours to carry bombs and air-to-air missiles. Loaded and pre-flight checked, it took off from Nellis Air Force Base, fired a burst of 20mm shells, and dropped bombs onto mock targets. Returning with a smile, pilot Major BJ Java was clearly impressed with the effort of the crew. Transformed from aircraft #2 to combat capable fighter, it was fitted with “Warbird, Second to None” on special plaques in the cockpit.

History and Specifications:
Pioneering new technologies in aerospace engineering, the Lockheed F-16 Fighting Falcon was the first fighter jet with direct hydraulic or electronic control surfaces, the first aerodynamically unstable aircraft to see production, and one of the fastest single engine aircraft in the world. Flying at speeds up to 1,345mph, altitudes over 50,000ft, and more than 1,400 miles of combat range, it is highly maneuverable and well equipped for ground-attack and air-to-air engagements. Receiving numerous upgrades in the last few decades, the aircraft has since become a hallmark of aviation engineering. Operated by the Thunderbirds since 2009, this fighter jet entertains crowds across the globe with impressive close-in formation displays. Piloted by six highly trained professionals, highlighted by smoke, and blessed with skill, they put on some of the most astonishing performances every year.
