F-117 Nighthawk "Grey Dragon” Die-Cast Model
In stock
Known as the first operational aircraft with stealth technology and virtually “invisible” to enemy radar, the F-117 Nighthawk was intended to fly in and out without ever being noticed. Not only was it subsonic, it also lacked advanced air-to-air missiles or an internal cannon to protect itself, relying primarily on its small radar signature and sound level.
Just as unique as the overall shape, the aircraft was propelled by internal General Electric F404 turbofans, with exhaust outlets that were thin and flat to mix cool air and hot air for lower thermal signature. Additionally, the underside of the aircraft had no external pylons for its ordinance, rather it carried them internally for a lower radar cross-section. For guidance, these weapons used an advanced thermal imaging system and laser rangefinder, in order to give off minimal notice for targets below.
Known as the “Grey Dragon” livery, this one-of-a-kind scheme was used to demonstrate the type’s effectiveness in daytime operations. Compared to the common midnight black paint which was ideal for low-light combat, the grey made itself scarce among the clouds. Die-cast replica features engraved panel lines, pad printed details, authentic paint scheme, and cockpit with pilot figurines. Also includes pre-installed replica weaponry and posable display stand. Measures 7.75”l with a 5.25” wingspan at 1:100 scale.
