Tested with a unique multicolor camouflage, this A-6E Intruder was active during 1989's Excercise Red Flag.

Introduced as the world’s first all-weather attack fighter that can detect and identify strategic targets under low or zero visibility conditions, the A-6 Intruder was one of the most capable and powerful aircraft in it’s time. Not known for its beauty, the Intruder made up entirely in the mission readiness department, crewed by a set of two in the side-by-side cockpit. Housing two radar units in the nose, the bulbous nose was a necessity, paying dividends in combat situations. Designed to represent aircraft #159899 which was stationed on the USS Constellation, this unique and wonderful livery was a one-off for Exercise Red Flag of 1989. Yielding positive results during the event, the crews elected not to immediately remove the temporary water-based paint, remaining in place during their return cruise to NAS Whidbey Island.

Features:

  • Precision replicated panel lines, pad-printed decals, and authentic experimental livery of the VA-165 “Boomers” squadron.
  • Includes retracted or deployed landing gear, two pilot figurines, opening canopy, and transparent display stand for in-flight immersion.
  • Comes with a full set of press-fit weaponry, which can be attached under the wings.
  • Measures 9.25”l with a 8.75” wingspan at 1:72 scale.
  • Highly collectable and limited edition, this is the ultimate A-6E Intruder Die-Cast Model.

History and Specifications:
Entering service in the early 1960s with several Navy squadrons, the A-6 was quickly at home in its role suppressing enemy air defenses (SEAD) using its electro-optical sensors. Capable of detecting targets in complete darkness or fog, the aircraft “Intrudes” into their airspace and launches an attack, taking out radar units with HARM anti-radiation missiles and following up with guided-bombs. Capable of carrying the entire NATO arsenal under it’s 5 weapons pylons, the craft was almost infinitely adaptable to any nation’s stores, up to 18,000 lbs per aircraft.
Though plump and somewhat unattractive to many pilots, this trail-blazing vehicle was consistently upgraded to provide the uppermost level of effectiveness, receiving the later designation A-6E in it’s final form. Incorporating a multi-mode radar unit and improved onboard computer with enhanced FLIR/Laser guidance system, it is now capable of using HARM missiles alongside the Harpoon anti-ship missile for naval conflicts.
