Introduced as the first aircraft specifically designed for close air support, the A-10 Thunderbolt is an easily recognizable and unique type of aircraft. Carrying a huge number of guided or unguided weaponry and the famous GAU-8 Avenger cannon, the “Hog” is intended to fly low with excellent turning capability. Between 1972 and 1984, over 700 A-10s were manufactured by Fairchild Aviation, exclusively to be used by the USAF.

Powered by a pair of General Electric TF-34 turbojet engines and boasting large wings, the aircraft excellent wing loading and maintained a high power-to-weight ratio. These attributes equate to excellent battlefield presence, as even though it is not extremely fast, the agility is very high. Its nimble nature lets the aircraft quickly swing around to each target, before launching a guided missile or volley of 30mm bullets. Across the belly of the plane are over a dozen weapons pylons, 14 to be exact, with up to 16,000 lbs of capacity overall. With these, anti-tank guided missiles, air-to-air missiles, guided bombs, napalm bombs, iron bombs, and even 20mm gunpods can be carried in almost any combination.

Assigned to the 23rd Fighter Group at Bagram Air Force Base, this A-10 Thunderbolt II provides close air support for ground troops and offensive attack capabilities. As the continuation of the “Flying Tigers” AVG unit, this squadron holds itself to high standards, serving with pride in the search of a peaceful world. Die-Cast version has an authentic paint scheme, etched panel lines, pad printed decals, and pre-installed weaponry. Also includes retracted or deployed landing gear and display stand to show the model in flight. Measures 9”l with a 9.75” wingspan at 1:72 scale.
