Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 “Imua One” Die-Cast Model

First flying after 2016, the Boeing 737 Max line is the fourth-generation offshoot of the successful 737 design. Improvements were made to increase the efficiency, range, and performance to compete with designs such as the Airbus A320. Due to the troublesome launch of the MAX 8, the line has seen some setbacks in production or certification, but the brand is expecting these to be ironed out by the mid-2020s as deliveries commence.

The Max 8 version was the first to be created of the new line, intended to replace the 737-800 in active service. Compared to its predecessor, it has new split wingtips for increased efficiency and an extended fuselage, allowing for up to 210 passengers. Cruising speed is 521mph, with an official range of 4,000 miles and a service ceiling of 41,000 ft. The aircraft is propelled by two CFM Leap-1B engines, producing 29,000 lbs. of thrust each and allowing the aircraft to have a maximum takeoff weight of 182,200 lbs. All the airframe improvements add up to a 14% lower airframe maintenance cost and 20% fuel savings, while being 50% quieter in flight.

Marking the four-year anniversary of inter-island flight in Hawaii, the Imua One livery by Southwest Airlines is a “rallying cry” for teamwork. Decorated carefully with cultural designs, the aircraft features five stars, six paddlers, and six turtles, representing Imua’s harmony, and balance. The stars are also a nod to the astrological guidance and five important airports of the mainland.
